Swimming pool reopens

Lawrence Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Ky., reopened Wednesday.

The pool was closed Tuesday because of fecal matter in the water that occurred at a morning swim event.

Pool staff raised the chlorine levels as part of the cleanup procedure, said Lori Madaus, aquatics supervisor.

the Lawrence pool has to be the most crapped-in pool in the country! I've taken my kids there about 8 times in the last 2 summers and 3 out of 8 times (including yesterday) somebody crapped in the pool. Terrible!

Messed, you aren't kidding. I realize times were different 20 years ago, but I worked at a large public pool for about 7 years in the 1980s and I don't remember the pool closing once for doody in that entire time. I believe we closed the baby pools for general maintenance and cleaning on a regular basis, but the main pools went through thorough cleanings only before and after the season. I do recall dealing with what we called "ace jobs," but once the offending biological refuse was fished from the pool it was back in the water.

On the other hand, we hosed the pool decks every night. I get kind of grossed out at the LOAC by all of the scuz on the concrete.

Oh for simpler times.

Good points Eartha...

And did anyone else notice the juxtaposition of the two headlines "Swimming Pool Opens" next to the "Sewer Work..." article in the online edition?
